About Sun Bear Solar
Sun Bear Solar — a collaborative effort between the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe (UMUT) and Canigou Group — is set to be one of the largest solar farms in the United States. Located on the Ute Mountain Ute Reservation in southwestern Colorado, the project aims to generate 971 megawatts (MW) of clean energy — enough to potentially power more than 250,000 homes during peak generation.
- The UMUT Climate Action Plan goals to generate a long-term and predictable source of revenue, enable self-sufficiency, and reduce greenhouse gases (GHG)
- U.S. federal goals to attain 100% carbon pollution-free electricity by 2035 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050
